Last year, our case manager, Stephanie, built a garden at one of our properties. Sarah’s House outdoor garden space was specifically designed to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of its clients and staff. The hope was to help our residents reduce stress, anxiety, boredom and achieve quieting of the mind as they reconnect with nature. Our garden is fenced for privacy it’s sunny, surrounded by a luscious green lawn, trees that sway in the wind, and a Patio area with a fire pit.

At the time, it seemed like a pretty good idea that we hoped would bring some joy, hope, meaningful work, and some fresh fruit and vegetables.

By the end of the summer it had become more than we could have ever hoped for.

Looking ahead to 2021

This year, we are hoping to expand our successful experiment of last year into something truly amazing in 2021. Through the generous donation of a Community Garden Toolkit by Urban Alliance, we will have access to most of the tools, know-how, and resources that we need to get started.

All that is missing are the plants!

If you’d like to help provide plants for our gardens, and bring some extra hope, joy, purpose, … and vegetables to 2021, we’d really appreciate if you could bring some plants to drop off. Use the form below to contact us to arrange a drop off or call the office at 860.348.3486. (If you would prefer to support this project financially, you can always do so by making a donation here.
